Easter in Morava, Pt. 1

I am beginning to think that even some Czechs are starting to be confused by Easter.

Yes, they color eggs but any other connection to the West probably stops there.

In talking to a Czech colleague of mine, she links the celebration here to the East but I link it to the past, and her statement makes me even more certain of that as young Czechs today have a tenuous at best sense of their own history.

The fall of the Wall almost 20 years ago has completely severed their connection to their own history. All you hear about today is mpvie stars and credit cards or the very recent Communist past; not of the Celtic, the Hussite, the catholic, or even the Nazi past. There is a huge amount of tradition that is being ignored or forgotten.

This isn’t over. The longer I’m here the more complex it gets.
